Japan Post, EMS and SAL tracking

All Japan Post shipments can be found on the Postal Ninja package tracker by entering the tracking number in the search field and clicking the "Find by tracking number" button.

Japan Post is Japan's national postal service, responsible for delivering international postal shipments and internal correspondence to individuals and legal entities. It also provides an urgent postal service and carries out EMS shipments. EMS shipping rates with Japan Post are higher, but allow for speedy delivery.

The international postal regulations strictly prohibit the shipment of narcotics, psychotropic or explosive substances and materials, inflammable substances, or any other kind of danger. All shipping rules, including those that restrict dimensions, weight, and postal packaging, can be found on the Japan Post's website.

Types of Japan Post tracking numbers

Japan Post assigns a tracking number to all EMS shipments and packages. Small packages may not have tracking and be sent without it.

The international postal identifier consists of an alphanumeric sequence:

  • RA123456785JP: small packages from Japan weighing up to 2 kg always start with the letter R, from the word Registered;

  • CD123456785JP: the tracking number for Japan Post shipments weighing up to 20 kg always starts with the letter C;

  • EE123456785JP: EMS express deliveries start with the letter E.

According to the international format of the Universal Postal Union, the structure of the tracking number has a specific meaning for each letter and digit:

  • First letter R/C/E: indicates the type of shipment. A Japan Post tracking number that starts with the letter R (Registered) designates registered small packages;

  • 123456785: this numerical sequence provides a uniqueness;

  • JP: refers to the country of the originating postal service.

Tracking of Japan Post postal packages

The longest pause in tracking shipments from Japan occurs between export and import. Without worrying, you can get an idea of where your package is at a certain point by tracking the Japan Post shipment on the Postal Ninja website with translation of all tracking statuses.

The sender can obtain the tracking number for a Japan Post shipment by registering it at the post office. You can also register a shipment remotely. Remember, however, that electronic registration does not guarantee that the sender has actually sent the item. In the former case, the physical delivery of the item is immediate, so the tracking information is very quickly added into the tracking system and the recipient can immediately verify the start of the international postal shipment.
